English Paper Piecing Revival
It’s at least 300 years old; it’s raging in the quilt world now, for good reasons. I’ll show my EPP quilts, small and large; and 3D stitched objects, like polyhedrons that become bowls, purses, toys, etc. Machine vs. hand sewing options. How to use children’s blocks to design quilts. This lecture stands on its own, or can be the opening of my workshop on the subject.
Examples of these quilts are in Gallery 2, English Paper Piecing, and the polyhedra are here.
Scrap Cities
I’ve made quilts inspired by New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and many fantasy lands. We’ll go on a whirlwind tour with photos of real buildings, and how they inspire fun, mostly pieced fabric versions.
This lecture stands on it own, or can be the opening of my workshop on the subject. See quilt examples in Gallery 3, Scrap Cities.
Time Travel Quilts
Examples of using vintage fabric, like denim jeans; linen dinner napkins; clothing (beyond tee shirts); neckties; embroideries; hankies; lace; and much more. Ideas for combining new and old elements. This lecture stands on it own, or can be the opening of a workshop
A Jewish Quilting Journey
All-American patchwork quilting meets Judaica. How my Jewish heritage influenced my quilting. Judaism has a historic love for textiles. Quilting techniques and ideas are perfectly suited for it. Wedding canopies, prayer shawls, yarmulkes designed using kaleidoscopic quilting techniques. My love for trompe l’oeil matzoh fabric (for quilted Passover evening purses, earrings, pillows, and matzoh covers). This lecture stands on it own, or can be the opening of a workshop.
